How to dictate

SpeechLive offers a wide range of options to record or process your dictations:

Smartphone

Simply dictate with your smartphone, all you need is the free Philips Voice Recorder app​. The Use SpeechLive with the app section covers the set up and usage of the app.

Dedicated recorder

You can use a mobile voice recorder together with SpeechLive. Check out our current mobile product range.

Browse through our current microphone product range that is optimized for recording directly into your laptop or PC.

Turn your voice into text

Recording your voice is only the start, the following services enable you to create documents out of your dictations:

In-house transcriptionist

Assign your own transcriptionist. Follow the steps in the Use SpeechLive via web browser section to set up your account and the account of your transcriptionist. Transcriptionists linked to your author account automatically receive all finished dictations. The Transcriptionist section covers all necessary steps for transcriptionists to transcribe your dictations.

To get the transcription:

  1. After your transcriptionist finished the transcription, the status of the dictation changes to Transcription finished.

  2. Select the dictation in the dictation list.

  3. Click on the Download icon Download_icon.png in the toolbar and choose:

    • Download dictation: To download only the audio file of your dictation.

    • Download attachments: Only download attachments, this includes documents the transcriptionist added as well as picture attachments.

    • Download all: Includes all attachments as well as the audio file of your dictation.

Real-time speech-to-text

Turn your voice into text instantly by using a desktop dictation microphone or the built in microphone in your laptop. See the Speech to text section for more details.

  1. Navigate to the Dictations tab and click on Start speech to text start_stt_icon.png in the toolbar.

  2. Choose the language csm_lang-select_icon_98f48666de.png before you start.

  3. Use a desktop dictation microphone to get the best speech recognition results:

  4. Click on Record/Pause Record_DD_hover_icon.png to start.

    • When you start speech to text for the first time, you will be asked by your browser to allow access to your microphone:

      Click on Allow to continue.

    • You can also use different voice commands, click on Available commands csm_voice-commands_icon_82b5e93108.png to display all commands.

    • Click on Settings csm_Cogwheel_icon_03ea8d6b63.png to define your own vocabulary.

  5. Finish the speech-to-text session by clicking on Finish Finish-dictation_icon.png in the toolbar.

  6. To download your transcribed text, select the dictation in the dictation list.

  7. Click on Download Download_icon.png in the toolbar and select Download attachments.

Speech recognition

Click on Send to speech recognition Send-to-SR_icon.png in the toolbar to send your dictation to the automated (machine) speech recognition. The Speech recognition section covers this process in more details.

Transcription service

Click on Send to transcription service Send-to-TS_icon.png in the toolbar. Your dictation will be transcribed by (human) transcriptionists. The Transcription service section covers this in more details.
